My love for preserving old media started long before I ever imagined it would become a business.
Growing up, I was always the person digging through old photo albums, asking questions about relatives I'd never met, and wanting to hear the stories behind every photograph. I've always been nostalgic, and there's something special about being able to hold a piece of family history in your hands.
Some of my most treasured memories are the photos of my great-grandparents who immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. On my mom's side, my family came from Ireland and Italy. On my dad's side, my roots trace back to Italy. Looking through those old photographs and learning the stories behind them helped me feel connected to generations I never had the chance to meet.
When I was little, I was obsessed with watching our home movies. Anytime my parents pulled out the camcorder, I couldn't wait to watch the footage back afterward. Family vacations, birthday parties, Christmas mornings, random afternoons in the backyard, I wanted to relive every moment. That fascination never really went away. As I got older, I found myself returning to those same tapes again and again, appreciating them even more with each passing year.
Naturally, as time goes on, we all experience loss. The older I've gotten, the more meaningful those home movies and photographs have become. There are people in those videos that I'd give anything to sit down and talk to again. Being able to hear a loved one's voice, see their smile, watch the way they moved, or relive a moment you thought you'd forgotten is something truly priceless.
As I continued exploring my family's history, I discovered old film reels, photographs, and home movies that had been tucked away for decades. Watching footage of my grandparents when they were young and seeing moments that happened long before I was born made me realize just how important it is to preserve these memories before they're lost to time.
That's what inspired me to start Tara's Tape Transfers.
Today, I help families preserve their VHS tapes, camcorder tapes, film reels, photos, slides, negatives, and other treasured memories so they can be enjoyed for generations to come. Whether it's a first birthday, a family vacation, a wedding, or simply hearing the voice of someone you miss, these moments deserve to be protected.
Every tape, photo, and reel that comes through my door represents a family's story. I treat each one with the same care and attention I would give my own family's memories.
Because once a memory is gone, we can't get it back, but together, we can make sure it's preserved for future generations.
